A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a blue rectangle within a silver border, the rectangle bearing a silver lozenge between two silver stars, one in upper left and one in lower right, and crossed diagonally from upper right to lower left by two scarlet lightning flashes each terminating on the lozenge; all above a scarlet scroll inscribed "INFORMATION FOR DECISION" in silver letters.
The design simulates the device used by the U.S. Army Computer Systems Command, a predecessor organization. The symbolism which is quoted below, perpetuates that history. The stars represent command, the pair indicating that USACSC derived from two commands (Combat Developments Command and Army Materiel Command); the diamond is the flow-chart symbol for the decision making process; and the lightning bolts signify speed, power and communications. Red for zeal, white for motivation and blue for loyalty, are colors associated with the predecessor organization.
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the U.S. Army Computer Systems Command on 24 November 1970. It was redesignated for the U.S. Army Systems Software Support Command on 17 April 1985. The insignia was redesignated with symbolism updated on 3 February 1989, for the U.S. Army Information Systems Engineering Command.
